Orlistat is the active component of the weight-loss drug Xenical. It helps you lose weight by preventing your digestive system from absorbing fats. Adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or those with a BMI of 28 or higher plus other risk factors, including diabetes or high blood pressure, can use Xenical.
Dosage and usage
One Xenical capsule should be taken daily with each of your three main meals. When taking Xenical, don’t forget to eat a low-fat, low-calorie diet. You can omit your Xenical dosage if you skip a meal or if the meal is fat-free. Don’t take more than the suggested three capsules each day. The effects of Xenical may persist for up to 24 hours. Seek medical attention right away if you have serious side effects, such as excruciating stomach discomfort.
What Xenical contains
The active ingredient in each Xenical capsule is 120 milligrams of orlistat. Gelatin, indigo carmine (E132), titanium dioxide (E171), sodium laurilsulfate, and povidone are all present in the capsule shell.
Side effects of Xenical
Gas with discharge, greasy spotting, and fatty or oily stools are common adverse effects of Xenical. Signs of liver issues or allergic reactions are examples of serious side effects. If you have symptoms like severe stomach discomfort, itching, rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing, get medical help right once.
Precautions
If you have cholestasis, chronic malabsorption syndrome, are pregnant, or are nursing, avoid using Xenical. Before using Xenical, speak with your doctor if you have a history of kidney stones. When taking Xenical, people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes should keep a careful eye on their blood sugar levels. Before beginning Xenical, let your doctor know if you are taking any drugs for weight loss.
Package leaflets
